Waste water treatment

The aim of treating waste water is to restore the water’s natural quality. Clean water is one of the most important resources on our planet. This is why we take responsibility for treating our waste water ourselves, using various different methods in our plants:

  • Physico-chemical treatment: Here, the waste water is collected in tanks and chemically neutralised to remove heavy metals and pollutants. After further filtering processes, the water is pure and can be returned to the natural water cycle.
  • Waste water evaporation systems: With these systems, we use condensation to separate the pollutants from the water, and then return it to the production cycle. Only a tenth of the fresh water previously consumed is required and the amount of waste water is reduced by 90%. The concentrate that occurs during evaporation is disposed of by certified specialist companies.
  • Waste water evaporation in pyrolysis furnaces: A modification enables us to use the spray coolers of our thermal installations to evaporate waste water. The clean water vapour is channelled into ventilation systems. The solids remaining are disposed of by certified companies.
